Réseau Art Nouveau Network

Following the initiative of the Region Department of Historic Sites and Monuments (Brussels, Belgium) the European cities with Art Nouveau sites organized a network in 1999. Their main goals are to research, preserve, introduce and exhibit the buildings, objects, memories of this style. In 2013 the network received the Europa Nostra Price; in 2014 they got the European Cultural Route certificate.

The names Jugendstil, Glasgow Style, Nieuwe Kunst, Stile Liberty etc. all refer to the European movement called Art Nouveau. People can feel that it is a popular, protected, researched and exhibited artistic movement, and it is naturally true in the case of the most famous artworks. But there are also many unknown artists and art pieces, which are in danger.

The Hungarian Art Nouveau connected strictly to the movement of the Austrio-Hungarian Monarchy but, on the other hand, also formed a special Hungarian version of it based on folk art. In Budapest and in the countryside many beautiful art nouveau buildings remain furthermore in the capital there are museums with original art nouveau interiors as well.
